love love love

these photos, taken by fashion photographer miles aldridge, just blow my mind. sorry, er didn't mean to say "blow" in such close proximity to the white house.

but damn, we thought all hope was lost for fashion in the nation's capitol when everyone became so obsessed with monica lewinsky and her horrid navy blue dress. g-rossssssssssssssssss.

but alas, miles has saved our nation from horrible taste (well, not really). if only they could make voting pamphlets look this good.

but we'll vote! vote! vote! anywayyyyyy!

check out more of miles aldridge here. we like.

by the way...

valerie and her week of wonders was phenomenal.
vampires, blood, sex, violence all plays out in a gorgeous cinematic pastoral landscape of bright colors and dark composition.
and the wardrobe- amazing!
read a great review from monsters at play here.

these stills for your viewing pleasure are also courtesy of monsters at play.

forgot to mention the film was accompanied by the valerie project put on by the cinefamily, which provided a live score. very interesting. it totally heightened the experience.

and this (valerie's "father") was particularly creepy. oh, and below is where the sex came in...

you can purchase the dvd on amazon and you can buy the valerie project score and read more about the project here.

feast for the eyes tonite!

i am going to see this movie tonight and i can barely wait.

valerie and her week of wonders is part of the czech new wave cinema of the early '70s and looks amazing. it was based on a novel by Vítězslav Nezval and was directed by czechoslovakian new wave film maker Jaromil Jireš

i'll post more about it tomorrow after i have actually experienced it for myself. but here's a preview...

it's about a beautiful 13-year-old girl who comes of age after receiving a pair of earrings as a gift. her life turns into a gothic fairy tale of sorts with seductive vampires and sex. oooh.

by the way, i'm just going to ignore the fact that she's supposed to be 13- crazy euros.

wonder what a flower with a drop of blood on it is supposed to symbolize... sleeeeeeeazy.

here's the original movie poster...

and her's the cover of the nezval novel from the '50s.
