just one
of the many reasons why on occasion i wish i lived in ny.
but then, after admiring this louis vuitton neon dream window, i would trudge back to my $2,000/mo studio apartment that smells like 3-day old chinese food and think, naaaaaaaaaah.

who loves the sun?
apparently not the u.s.
photo credit: nasa, not me in case you were wondering.
take a look at why the government announced it is officially halting further projects involving solar power technology. this is truly depressing but the powers that be claim they would like to research solar energy's long term effects on various environments and the population. oh, that's so nice of them. i feel good. the bad news: it's gonna take two years.
if only they would have put this much energy (bud-um-pah!) into microwave technology and cancer or how about cigarettes? oh and guns are ok, but solar power could be dangerous... i is confusion and sad.

it would be a sin of all sins if you are in the LA area tonight and don't check out this reading for those of us less fortunate, who are being held captive in the upper midwest. jessica hopper is quite perhaps my favorite typist/blogger- entertaining, biting, and best of all precious with a hint of pretension. love her. please do me a favor and check out her musings, which will not fail to make your life more rich for at least a short time.
god, i miss LA. xoxo

cross your fingers, spit in your hat
here's what happened on this day in 1947. strange that just 50 years ago aliens, instead of britney spears, were considered front-page news. personally, i think they're equally as intriguing- a true phenomenon. thank goodness we've finally learned the meaning of the word "newsworthy."

ain't no future in yo' fronts
anyway, here is an homage to my late grill. i found a mold of my teeth (pre-bling) from when i was about ten. it's creepy funny and totally makes me appreciate orthodontic science. however, this thing has been following me around for years and years. every time i move, the box of teeth resurface. i've never had the heart to throw them away and i've even contemplated giving them to someone but who? someone very lucky, of course.
as a sidenote, post orthodontics, i always wanted to lock metal with a boy with braces just to see if it would really happen. is that just something they tell kids to prevent teenage pregnancy? as if the headgear and over-bite aren't enough...

life as a chew toy
in between my little dog nibbling on my fingers and trying to go back to sleep this morning, i dreamt i ran into vincent price on the street. i don't have any inkling where this came from as i probably haven't thought about him since the last time i watched edward scissorhands. but gone are the days when i used to try and figure out what my dreams mean. i am simply thankful for the time vincent and i spent together. i got to tell him how much i loved and hated him in pit and the pendulum when i was a kid. he seemed very pleased to hear it.xo

hell in my mind
call me obsessive but ever since that no wave post, i've got richard hell and his blank generation on the brain so i google-imaged some photos to indulge my guilty pleasure-seeking self.here they are:

hell is one of my favorite punk personalities who have managed to remain completely cool throughout the years, that is when you compare him to douche bags like john lydon (who ended up on judge judy) and belinda carlisle. check out his website >here< he still does a lot of writing stuff, including books, films and poetry. he's pretty much a modern day william burroughs or jack kerouac but with better clothes and taste in music.
he's got loads of his work and some amazing photos linked all over this site. spent too long here.

contort yourself
above photo: richard hell of the voidoids and james chance of the contortions all spiffed-up proper (courtesy of "No Wave: Post-Punk. Underground. New York. 1976-1980")
the ny times ran an article today promoting a photo exhibit in tribeca curated by thurston moore and byron coley in conjunction with their above-mentioned book. the photos are brilliant!
(above: lance loud of the mumps and lydia lunch of teenage jesus and the jerks)"... every weird rock scene — and every era of New York bohemia — eventually gets its coffee-table book moment," said the times.
(above: ikue mori, arto lindsey, and robin crutchfield of dna)
(above: brian eno and james chance of the cortortions)tru dat, my friend. tru dat. how else would would-be "rockers" like babyshambles know how to dress?
ps: after the opening, there's a teenage jesus and the jerks reunion across the street at the knitting factory... fun. btw- they called lydia lunch "over-sexed." like, duhhhh.
here's an excerpt from the book > click here <

sweet stuff
i wasn't sure whether i was going to laugh or cry when i clicked on this link sent to me by my sis, jen. you tell me how i should feel... > sugar bush the squirrel <. if only hillary had this little guy as her campaign manager... well, let's just be glad she was in the dark. if anyone could get a message to barack, please send him this link.ps: it's kind of hard to get around the alluring patriotism via nut-hoarding imagery but ignore the political agenda and enjoy anyhow.

gimme some kinda sign
just a thought. if i had a low rider oldies night, would you attend? i was recently thinking back on my evenings listening to art le beau's gangster oldies show on the beat. those were special sunday nights. i would even go as far as to say they were magical. lying in bed with the lights off listening to giggles shout out to joker through the soothing pipes of mr le beau's smooth-talkin' vocal cords. damn, those were the days. i used to imagine what it would feel like to be the recipient of one of those radio wave love notes... i don't think i was running with the right crowd in the 6th grade, though.my top 10 favorite low rider slow jams (this was originally a top 5 but i found too many gems!)
oogum boogum (this used to be my favorite song for like ever. think it's makin' a comeback)
sitting in the park (quixotic covered this some years back... amazing)
i'm your puppet
dedicated to the one i love
will you love me tomorrow?
earth angel
could this be magic?
there's a moon out tonight
in the still of the night
ooh baby baby
ps- these are all on this cruisin' chrome series of comps. and here's another good collection also from thump records. genius! stay tuned for a gangsta oldies night curated by me.

souls of mischief
life these days: moving things, painting things, cleaning things, feeding things. blogging has been out of the question so i do apologize. it's all happening.
anyway, a couple items that also happened in my painful hiatus from the internet... my buddy kara sent me a follow-up link to my robert frost vs. the teenagers post from a while back. hell yes! back in junior high, we would refer to that payback as a facial disgracial. busted.
>check it<
my favorite line: "When the session ended, the vandals were offered snacks — apple cider, muffins, sliced fruit — but none partook." thanks kara!
also, i recently interviewed emma chaplin from the sheffield band the long blondes while on their u.s. tour. such a nice lady. >check it< vice declared the band's new album, couples, the worst record of the month. but then again, they eat jizz pops.
promise to update with more exciting things very soon. xo
