LAND PDX

Hey Portlanders and presumably wannabe Portlanders! Finally, BuyOlympia.com is opening a retail and gallery space in the front portion of its warehouse. October 9th is the grand opening and you won't want to miss it. (As if you need one more reason to crush on PDX. I know Jen doesn't.)

Anyway, I have conveniently purchased all kinds of awesomeness from this indie online retailer, from super weird zines to great under-the-radar books, so I am happy (and jealous) to announce that some of you lucky devils will be able to fore go the excrutiating pain of waiting for things you want to make it to the mailbox.

Here's a short list of BuyOlympia's current online offerings, which is coincidentally a premeditated attempt at a Christmas list for me, "Ahem."

Memento Mori

The Church of Bones in a small town outside of Prague in the Czech Republic is decorated entirely with the human bones of people who died from the plague 300 years ago. In 1870, a morbidly handy woodcarver took the liberty of arranging the bones in an artistic manner, and today the church is an ironically beautiful reminder of one of the darkest times in European history.

I'm also sure this place is the tourist trap of all tourist traps but I am already admitting that I will be paying the $1.75 admission in a couple of weeks when I take my first (yes, first) trip to Europe. Holla.

Viva Mexico!

Finally some front page news on Mexico that isn't guns, immigration, drugs or Swine Flu. Stay gold, Mexico. I believe in you even if the media don't. PS: I am totally backing the "World's Biggest Pair of Trousers."

Here are some nice words written about Tropic of Cancer's new record, The Dull Age, on the BOOMKAT website. If you would like a copy, please message me. BOOMKAT sold out of them already but we've got a few left around here! xo, Cam
