MEMORY BLOCKADE

SILK FLOWERS - In Your Memory from Tara Sinn on Vimeo.

I found this video quite entertaining tonight. Sometimes you just gotta blockade the brain. This definitely does the trick. No thinking allowed.

PICTURE IN A PICTURE

Birthday love to Thurston Moore. Via Opening Ceremony, where today you will find a larger collection of his likeness throughout the ages.

I WANTED TO SEE YOU, TO SEE IF I WANTED TO SEE YOU

"I love a girl with a lovely neck... lovely breasts and a lovely voice... lovely wrists, a lovely brow, and lovely knees. But who is chicken."

Breathless (A Bout de Souffle) - Jean Luc Godard's first film in its entirety, 1960

Highly, highly, highly recommended! Everything wonderful and dangerous about the love portrayed in all of Godard's films is featured here in his first.

Watching Parisian playboy and man on the run, Michel, pine over the one (American) girl who won't love him back is at times painful and always amusing. Every word spoken between the two lovers is priceless.

I will strive to have more exchanges like these in my life. Well, all except for that part where she gets him killed at the end.

AMERICANA INTERNET K-HOLE

Viewing INTERNET K-HOLE feels the same as stumbling upon a box of someone's old photographs at a swap meet or thrift store does - voyeuristic, depressing, slightly wrong and really, really addicting.

You don't know any of the people in the photos, you don't understand half the shit that's going on but it all feels strangely familiar, like you could very well come across one of yourself. You've been there. Mortality looms.

Oh, and trust - Take the title of the website very seriously. Enter at your own risk.

A HYMN TO VENUS

O Venus, beauty of the skies,
To whom a thousand temples rise,
Gaily false in gentle smiles,
Full of love-perplexing wiles;
O goddess, from my heart remove
The wasting cares and pains of love.

If ever thou hast kindly heard
A song in soft distress preferred,
Propitious to my tuneful vow,
A gentle goddess, hear me now.
Descend, thou bright immortal guest,
In all thy radiant charms confessed.

Thou once didst leave almighty Jove
And all the golden roofs above:
The car thy wanton sparrows drew,
Hovering in air they lightly flew;
As to my bower they winged their way
I saw their quivering pinions play.

The birds dismissed (while you remain)
Bore back their empty car again:
Then you, with looks divinely mild,
In every heavenly feature smiled,
And asked what new complaints I made,
And why I called you to my aid?

What frenzy in my bosom raged,
And by what cure to be assuaged?
What gentle youth I would allure,
Whom in my artful toils secure?
Who does thy tender heart subdue,
Tell me, my Sappho, tell me who?

Though now he shuns thy longing arms,
He soon shall court thy slighted charms;
Though now thy offerings he despise,
He soon to thee shall sacrifice;
Though now he freezes, he soon shall burn,
And be thy victim in his turn.

Celestial visitant, once more
Thy needful presence I implore.
In pity come, and ease my grief,
Bring my distempered soul relief,
Favour thy suppliant's hidden fires,
And give me all my heart desires

I NEED YOU, OH BABY

This could very well be my favorite song discovery of the year. It's no coincidence this popped up on my radar on the heels of a recent reissue from minimal pioneer Snowy Red. Though I had heard other tracks from the box set, I had no idea this one existed. It was somehow obscured by all of the other gems. However, this is one of the most visceral and authentic pieces of music I've heard in ages. My god. You can bet it will make an appearance on one of the mixes I am working on very soon.

NEVERS MIXTAPE

My lovely friend Mehran Azma of NEVERS recently assembled this gorgeous mix for FLA Records & Tapes. It's a lush feast of stark and dark tracks, interspersed with tones of eerie playfulness. It opens with an excerpt from Carnival Of Souls and closes with Grouper. Everything sandwiched in between makes complete sonic sense.

DOWNLOAD HERE

Visit FLA Records & Tapes for several other band mixes, including Pink Playground, Colours, Wicked Crafts and one coming soon via yours truly. Also, thank you to Mehran for being kind enough to include Tropic Of Cancer there.

THE HORRORS 'STILL LIFE' VIDEO

Prismatic visions, lovely locks and blood orange sunset hues. As evidenced in this video for 'Still Life', the much-heralded single off of Skying, The Horrors new record, these gents never fail to captivate.

Skying releases worldwide July 11 and August 9 for we unlucky Americans.
